It was with a sense of responsibility and commitment that LOCAL – FOOD CULTURE® accepted the invitation to participate in the Sea Show: Azorean Sea Fair, which was held in the city of Horta, Faial Island, from December 8-12, 2021. Resulting from a partnership between the Regional Department of the Sea and Fishing, the Horta Municipality, and the Sea School of the Azores, the event promoted activities connected to the sea and regional products, highlighting the essential role of sustainability in the fishing sector. During “The Value of Fish” panel, the LOCAL representative spoke on “Giving Value to Local Products;” Inês Martins, from the University of the Azores, spoke about “The Nutritional Value and Toxic Risk of Fish in the Azores;” nutritionist Gonçalo Contente presented “The Benefits of Consuming Fish;” and Carla Dâmaso, from the Sea Observatory of the Azores, spoke on “Being Literate about the Ocean.”
