Meeting with the Terra Verde Farmers’ Association of the Azores

The Terra Verde Farmer’s Association of the Azores was founded in 2012 to defend and protect the rights and interests of local farmers. Aiming to influence political decision makers and reach all who work in Agriculture and in the fields, this association has as its motto “KEEPING AGRICULTURE ALIVE”!

Since we share the same beliefs and objectives of promoting Azorean producers, local produce, and sustainable agricultural practices, the LOCAL – FOOD CULTURE® team met with the President of the Board of the Terra Verde Association, Mr. Manuel Martins Ledo, Engineer Carolina Pontes and Engineer Nuno Sousa.

The various issues discussed during the meeting include the need for more appreciation and promotion of local vegetable and fruit produce, especially those which have lower commercial value, and the lack of training sessions for producers, as well as consumers. This collaborative approach looking toward the future means that we can count on the know-how of specialists and the valuable experience of those working in the field.
