The LOCAL – FOOD CULTURE® project has joined the Kairós Cooperative and its partners to support local development by promoting our regional food culture. Through the Mar e Terra (Land and Sea) Food Baskets, we aim to give added value to the fish that is found along the northern coast of São Miguel Island, especially chicharro (blue jack mackerel), and is caught by the coastal fishing communities from the village of Fenais da Luz to Fenais da Ajuda (Fenais-to-Fenais). As a result, LOCAL – FOOD CULTURE® is to be responsible for conducting a study of the nutritional properties of these underrated fish species, so that consumers become aware of the nutritional value and health benefits they offer.
